Thin Air by Michelle Paver

The much awaited return to the ghost story by the author of "Dark Matter".

Dark Matter sits highly in my list of top horror novels, so I was incredibly excited to pick this up in time for Halloween this year.

What a disapointment... it is pretty much a complete retread of the original, but without the skill, economy, or terrifying sense of isolation.

It is boring, repetitive, with terrible cod-Kipling dialogue - and nothing at all remotely scary occurs in it.

One hit wonder Paver returns sadly to the kids fantasy section...

  1. Bummer. Dark Matter was truly terrifying. I will have to look elsewhere for scary snowy Scandinavian fiction.

  2. Its not totally rubbish, its entertaining enough, just a bit sad she did a total copy of the original and then made it less scary and with more forgettable characters. I will search for a suitable arctic tale for you...
