The much awaited return to the ghost story by the author of "Dark Matter".
Dark Matter sits highly in my list of top horror novels, so I was incredibly excited to pick this up in time for Halloween this year.
What a disapointment... it is pretty much a complete retread of the original, but without the skill, economy, or terrifying sense of isolation.
It is boring, repetitive, with terrible cod-Kipling dialogue - and nothing at all remotely scary occurs in it.
One hit wonder Paver returns sadly to the kids fantasy section...
Bummer. Dark Matter was truly terrifying. I will have to look elsewhere for scary snowy Scandinavian fiction.
ReplyDeleteIts not totally rubbish, its entertaining enough, just a bit sad she did a total copy of the original and then made it less scary and with more forgettable characters. I will search for a suitable arctic tale for you...
